Who Are You Seeing

Tessa is an Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist (ACMT) at Clinical Massage MK. She trained originally as a Beauty Therapist before moving fully into clinical massage, which means she brings a rare combination of surface-level knowledge and deep structural understanding to this treatment.

She has since trained in the Face-up Method under Olga Newman, the technique's founder. Her approach is responsive and grounded in outcomes rather than aesthetics. She also has personal experience of persistent pain, which shapes how attentive and perceptive she is with every client.

What You Can Expect

Clients who have had the Face-up Method commonly notice:

  • A significant reduction in jaw tension, pain, and clicking
  • Relief from headaches rooted in the jaw, temples, or face
  • Better mobility and ease in the neck and jaw
  • A genuine nervous system reset, often described as deeply settling
  • Less facial puffiness and improved skin tone, as a natural result of better lymphatic drainage and circulation
  • A rested, refreshed feeling that goes beyond relaxation. It is a structural release.

Results build over time. A single session can give you a real sense of what the treatment does. A course of sessions tends to produce the most lasting change, particularly where jaw tension, TMJ, or headaches have been building for months or years.

What is The Face-up Method?

The Face-up Method is based on soft tissue therapy, myofascial release, and lymphatic drainage. It focuses on the structures of the face, neck, and jaw that most treatments completely overlook.

The Face-Up Method is not a spa facial. The Face-up Method works with the fascia, the jaw muscles, the lymphatic pathways, and the nervous system. It addresses the physical causes of tension, not just the symptoms.

Most clients also notice their skin looks better afterwards. That is a side effect of improved circulation, not the point of the treatment.

What Happens in Your Session

Every session begins with a short consultation. Tessa will ask about your jaw habits, headache patterns, sleep, stress, and any relevant symptoms. The treatment is then shaped around what you bring in on that day.

The neck comes first.

A significant part of the session is devoted to the neck, chest, and décolletage before any work on the face begins. This is intentional. Tension in the neck and suboccipital muscles directly affects the face, and releasing this area first means the facial work goes deeper and lasts longer.

What the session involves

Depending on what Tessa finds, your session may include:

  • Releases jaw tension, clicking, and facial tightness, using myofascial release and trigger point therapy
  • Reduces puffiness and improves skin tone, using gentle lymphatic drainage
  • Addresses deep jaw muscles that cannot be reached from the outside, using intraoral (buccal) massage, where appropriate
  • Eases headaches and neck restriction, using deep tissue work on the jaw, temples, and suboccipital region
  • Supports nervous system relaxation and circulation, using effleurage and circulatory strokes

Tessa works responsively throughout, adapting to what she finds in the tissue rather than following a fixed routine. Every session is different because every person is different.

What our Clients Say?

FAQ's

Questions We Get Asked a Lot

No. A regular facial works on the skin's surface. The Face-up Method works with the deeper structures: the fascia, the muscles of the jaw and neck, and the lymphatic system. The goal is therapeutic, to address tension, pain, and structural imbalance. Any improvement to your skin's appearance is a natural by-product of better circulation, not the treatment's intention.

It is a specialised technique developed by Olga Newman, grounded in established soft-tissue and myofascial principles. Tessa trained directly under Olga Newman herself. The treatment draws on the same clinical foundations as our work across the rest of the clinic, applied specifically to the face, jaw, and neck. Clients typically notice a real difference after their first session, with results building progressively over the treatment plan.

You can absolutely start with a single session at £70. That gives you a clear sense of what the treatment feels like and whether it is right for you. The 6-session treatment plan exists because long-standing issues, such as jaw tension, TMJ, and chronic headaches, tend to build over time and respond best to cumulative treatment. There is no pressure. One session first is completely fine.

It depends on what you're coming in with. Mild or recent tension can shift noticeably in one or two sessions. Longer-standing issues like TMJ dysfunction, chronic jaw clenching, or recurring headaches generally respond better to a course of four to six sessions. Tessa will give you an honest assessment after your first appointment.

In most cases, yes. The treatment can be particularly helpful for people with jaw tension and TMJ issues. Let Tessa know at the start of your session about any recent dental procedures, implants, or specific jaw conditions, and she will adapt the treatment accordingly.

Most physios and chiropractors focus on joints, the spine, and biomechanics. The Face-up Method focuses specifically on the soft-tissue structures of the face, jaw, and neck: the fascia, lymphatic pathways, and the masticatory muscles. It is a different area of focus, and for many people with jaw or facial tension, it fills a gap that other treatments do not address.

Something comfortable around your neck and upper chest, as this area is part of the treatment. Come with minimal or no makeup if you can. Beyond that, there is nothing specific to prepare.
